On the occasion of its third consecutive season, the Lamborghini Supertrophy is still displaying an impressive grid of 30 cars. The Trophy is a support race to the prestigious Australian Formula One Grand Prix. SV Organisation, SRO's parent company, opens offices in Paris to manage the French GT Championship. Investment in promotion and prize money bring immediate results, with grids rising rapidly from 20 to over 35 cars. Famous GT names such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Corvette take on the French specialists VBM, Helem and Venturi in a Series which aims to become the leading circuit Championship in France. SVO is also the promoter of the French round of the FIA GT Championship held in Dijon. The presence of manufacturers, indicator of the strength of the FIA GT Championship, also carries the seeds of self destruction. BMW, Lotus and all but one of the privateers are already out of the GT1 category. Porsche and a single remaining Panoz are alone in facing the all- conquering AMG Mercedes squad. A resounding 10 out of 10 victories sounds the death knell for the spectacular GT1 cars.
